OK - so this item came up pretty promptly at Methodist Council and this evening, because our great press officer was able to release some information to the media, I have been given permission to let the people who read my blog know what the result was. Permission simply because the new guidelines specifically preclude discussion of the debate or its outcome while the meeting is continuing or until the official result has been made public. But the result has been declared and so...
The Council has accepted the guidelines with a couple of amendments - firstly to remove the phrase 'after the meeting' from the citation of the Chatham House Rule. This allows for discussion of public documents prior to the meeting which would otherwise have been banned. The second amendment allows for an 'open review' of the guidelines now accepted and the development of a summary version of them similar to the Civil Service guidelines.
So - I won't be tweeting or blogging on anything else to do with Council until I return to Durham on Wednesday, or until the official decisions have been passed on to the press. I'll try to keep to the world of social media a la CODEC and outside of the meetings - but it probably means I won't get round to blogging for a couple of days now.
The report will be reviewed prior to it coming to Conference for wider application this June.
Now, I need to get some sleep.
Bye
Pete

Thanks Pete. No great surprise, I suppose. I just hoped and prayed Council might have shown a bit more imagination and daring, but .......

I think it all depends on how that summary turns out.

Pete,
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for all your work in this field. We would be a lot poorer without your insights and contributions.

I agree with Matt - the summary will be very important. I'm glad of the open review too. That's our chance to show some imagination and daring!

Thanks, Pete. So much to say in response to you, Dave, Richard and David H that I ended up writing my own rather involved post here. Now you can enjoy the rest of the Council!
