Yes, I need to get back to this. I need to get back to research activity after the double-barrelled chaos of the exam period and personal angst! I feel like that squirrel thing in the Ice Age movies - you know the one where he is chasing the acorn and always losing it. At the end, you see him with a tick in his eye...stress busting out all over...
I need to get on with my reading. I am reading a book by Harold Bloom on Shakespeare (WOW! Kind of...hope i can make use of it), one edited by Mike Parsons on Text and Task, several on rhetoric in preparation for this article I am supposed to be writing by August for publication in a new book on Biblical Interpretation. I am reviewing this wretched German book as well at the moment, and Andrew Lincoln's new commentary on John. My German is OK but it takes a good deal longer than French and an eternity compared to English! Reviewing books is an amazingly daft pasttime - you spend hours reading this thing and then you have 500 words to sum it up and pass on your thoughts. How daft is that! At least it means that I get some good reading. This German book summed up Johannine missiology as, quite simply, "Menschen in diese Liebesgemeinschaft zu integrieren" - 'to integrate humanity into this community of love'. I quite like that. You see I think this is where emerging church kind of scratches the surface but where so many forms of emerging church in the mainstream denominations are so unwilling to go. A friend went to look at an opportunity which he thought would be like the German but was just another gimmick. When will we take Bonhoeffer or John seriously?
Blogging is going to be erratic. But I will plod on...
