Spoke about this project at the Biblefresh Executive meeting we had today at EAUK HQ in London. Apparently it all started with the Portuguese. And I note that the Americans have now got in on the act as well (see http://blogs.cbn.com/books/archive/2008/10/06/zondervan-launches-handwritten-....
Amazing story told about the Portuguese version. The main organiser was a man called Alfredo. He was pretty tired out by towards the end of the event but decided that he should make sure that he did some of the writing himself. Worn out, at wits end, with battles all around him, he sat at the table and picked up the pen and read the words which he was supposed to copy out: 'come to me all who are weary and I will give you rest'. Apparently he burst into tears - as you would! He looked up at the women supervising the writing and she simply said, 'It's OK, it happens all the time'.
Wow! Would love to know if that story is true or if anyone has links to the Portuguese story. Also I'd love to get something like this organised for the UK for 2011 and the year of Biblefresh. Hopefully, we can!

The 2010 Methodist Conference approved Notice of Motion 109 as follows: "The Methodist Conference rejoices in the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible and the Biblefresh initiative. As part of its response, in line with the Year of the Bible already declared by the Methodist Conference, Conference resolves that the Districts work collectively, facilitated by the Connexional Team, to create a special volume of the Bible be transcribed by hand, over the course of the year, with as many Methodists as possible contributing by writing in verses."
